Our Story

The Ghanaian Canadian Association of Calgary ...

… was founded on June 13, 1980 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Matthew Boadi along with Ama Shinnie, Dr. Nii Ayi, Dacosta Mensah, J. Ocran, Dr. and Mrs. Quarshie, Archie Adams, Yaw Twumasi and Patricia and Kofi Fofie. The founders got together because Mr. Ben Asare Quansah also a founding member had lost his mother and the group gathered as they wanted to help him during this difficult time and from that came the idea to form a sense of community for social gatherings and to teach their 1st generation Canadian children about the culture and to leave a legacy, volunteerism. pride, love, community and support.
